If you are going to a virtual event or meeting with 3 or more people here are some tips you should follow:

  1. Sit close to the screen. Your face should fill most of it.
  2. Use a microphone or headset.
  3. Hit mute when not talking.
  4. Don't eat
  5. When you're on an audio call and on mute, you can do whatever you want. But when you're on mute on a video call, you need to act like you're engaged: Look at the camera, nod your head.
  6. Don't sit with the window behind you; lighting goes a long way.
  7. When talking, look at the camera, not at the screen. You'll appear more engaging and honest this way.
  8. When you're talking, go slow.
  9. If you're using a phone, don't walk, and if you're using a laptop, don't set it on your lap.
  10. Have your Linkedin profile weblink to use as your digital business card. I like to share it in the chat.

Stand out from the crowd; almost nobody follows these.
